EU Lomé II PV Follow-Up Project
The 250 home lighting systems under the Lomé II PV Follow Up Project was approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy as the first phase of full electrification of rural areas of Kiribati through Photovoltaics. Solar Lighting systems managed under utility scheme. 250 solar lighting systems were distributed and installed at remote islands of North Tarawa, Nonouti, and Marakei.

Foundation for the peoples of the South Pacific, USAID
Following the company formation in 1984, KGES principally known as SEC became the First sales-oriented business in Kiribati that sold solar PV systems. It acts as a retail outlet for solar PV systems and provide technical assistance where needed for installation and maintenance. 270 PV lighting systems were sold to private customers throughout rural Kiribati. Additional sales of larger systems were made to schools and government agencies

Integrated Atoll Development Project UNDP
Tamana Energy Programme Formulation Study. The first comprehensive energy survey of Tamana island showing that the largest uses of imported energy were for kerosene for lighting followed by dry batteries for radios, cassette players and torches.
